Top Visibility In The Google 3 Pack Equals More Site Traffic

The Importance Of Google My Business Listing

Have you looked at the Google search engine results pages lately? Do you notice a big block of sites (usually 3) listed toward the top of the page? That is the new Google Maps Listing and it is very important. One thing you should know right away is this:

SEO is not involved in the listing websites in the Google Maps listings!

The Google Maps Listing (GML) is designed to help searchers find Local Business that relate to their search. The GML is not searching for websites! It is looking for business’ online listings that are most relevant to the specific search. Plus that search is geographically targeted based on the location of the searcher.

Google Maps Listings Are Very Geo Targeted

This situation actually creates more questions than it answers. Like this example. Mary is in a coffee shop. She uses her cell phone to find an HVAC company who can fix her home air conditioner. If she uses the search term, “HVAC companies near me” Google will return a listing for HVAC companies near her current location. She may live ten miles from the coffee shop, so she won’t get all the HVAC companies that might be closer to her home location.

There’s More?

Yes. If your business is outside Google’s “geographic boundaries” then your business may not show up at all. For example: Mary’s coffee shop is located at the very edge of a city with a population of 100,000. If you own an HVAC company with a city address other than than Mary’s coffee shop, your business won’t show up at all! Not even if it is 10 feet from Mary’s coffee shop.

The Google Maps Listings are somewhat like a drop of water ripple effect:

This ripple effect has roots in what many people call the geographic “centroid” for a city. The centroid is considered to be the center point of a city, however, it is not the absolute geographic center. The centroid for a city is considered to be the location for the city hall or centralized government agency.

The Ripple Effect Only Goes In One Direction

This ripple effect only works if your business is in the “Large City.” If your business is in a suburb, your business’ geographic area stops a the large city boundary. This puts you on the outside looking in. You may provide all the services people want but the Google Maps Listing will not display your business to people located in that “Large City.” As a result, you could be losing thousands of dollars every year, month, week, or day!

What – There’s More Bad News?

Sort of. Google does not just give away the “local listing.” You must apply – sounds like the government, doesn’t it? Before your business can even be considered for Google Maps Listings, you must provide Google with all your business information and then [Are you ready for this . . .] Google sends you Post Card to the address you enter into the Google Maps Listing Account. This is called Google My Business Verification.

Google Requires Verification

Without a GMB Verification, Google will not display your business in the Google Maps Listing. Not at all. Never. You absolutely must have a GMB Verification. Google also calls this “claiming your business.”

Now We Know The Problem

The problem occurs when you don’t have an address within the “Large City”. Are you still asking, “How can I convince Google my business belongs in the Google Maps Listings?”

Our Google My Business Verification Services can provide you with a Google My Business account in your target city. Here’s an example: You own an HVAC company in Sun Lakes, AZ and you do business in the much larger city of Chandler, AZ. Your business is not listed in the Google Maps Listings and it never will be until you have a Chandler, AZ business location listing with your Google My Business. We will provide you with a Google My Business Verified listing in your geographically targeted city.
